In Alvord Texas high school science teacher Deanna Showalter who has been identified by Vegan News thanks to locals and the schools website (that lists her as the science teacher) fed a live kitten to a snake she reportedly captured a brought in.

It was first reported that this was not in front of students by Randy Brown the schools superintendent but the students have said online and the girl who told her mother that reported the incident has said it was done in front of students during class.
They anonymously told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, that her daughter texted her on September 3rd asking if she could take the kittens home.
When asked why, the high school student told her mother that her and friends watched a snake eat the kitten during the teacher’s class earlier in the day.

“It was really hard on her — she was up every two hours trying to feed them,” the student’s mother said.
“A couple days later, the teacher is saying, ‘Thanks to whoever turned me in,’ and trying to justify it.”
This is in conflict with the superintendents statements that this occurred before class and students weren’t present and were only told about the incident.
“Alvord ISD Superintendent Randy Brown said district officials received a report on September 3rd from a parent who heard a teacher fed a kitten to a snake in front of students. The district’s police department and administrators investigated the report and confirmed that the allegations being shared online were not accurate.” Reported NBC5
“She later acknowledged this decision to her class and permitted a student, with parental consent, to take the remaining ailing kittens home,” Brown said. “The teacher, an experienced educator and animal lover, has apologized to the students for her actions and voluntarily removed all snakes from her classroom.” The superintendent told NBC5

According to reports the student that saved the three kittens taking them home had them die later with her mom saying the teacher Deanna Showalter allegedly taunted the girl later when she found out they died saying:
“You can’t save them all”
It’s also reported the teacher also allegedly still has other kittens at home she is feeding to snakes she apparently told students.
The Alvord ISD Police Department and the Wise County Sheriff’s Office of Animal Control investigated the incident and decided to allow the school to handle the incident. No criminal charges have been followed as of the publication of this story.

PETA the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has called on the school to ban the use of animals in their classrooms and investigate the incident along with issuing a statement.
“If reports are true, an educator who should be teaching her students empathy and respect for others is instead tearing newborn kittens from their mother and subjecting them to a painful, terrifying death in front of shocked and traumatized teenagers,’ PETA Vice President Rachelle Owen said.
“Anyone who would demonstrate such cruel and disturbing behavior shouldn’t be around children or animals, and PETA is calling for an immediate investigation and a ban on live animals in all Alvord classrooms.”
“We understand that some students and others were upset by this situation, and that is the last thing we want,” said Superintendent Randy Brown, NBC5 reported
This author can speak from a place of authority here having been involved in cat rescue for over a decade along with owning a cat cafe and cat rescue that has saved and continues to save countless cats and kittens
No cat or kitten being “ailing” as the superintendent kept emphasizing justifies feeding them alive to a snake! Kittens are always sick just like human babies and getting them well is a fairly easy process.
Nothing justifies this clear and and intentional cruelty that we have well defined laws against that should be used in this case.
On top of that no school educator should be feeding kittens to snakes at all but certainly not in front of young minds.
This behavior is sociopathic in nature and Deanna Showalter clearly wanted an audience for it if the alleged accusations are true.
