In the early hours of April 4th, the Paris Terroirs pig slaughterhouse in Houdan, France, was targeted in a coordinated arson attack that destroyed 17 vehicles, including trucks and vans.
A French version of the Animal Liberation Front, ALF (Anarchistes Lance-Flamme) claimed responsibility on April 11th.
In their statement, the group framed the attack as a strike against “animal trafficking” and “the workings of speciesism and capitalism.” They also criticized reformist groups, urging them not to seek social “acceptability.”
The email ends with:
“Fire to the slaughterhouses, end to all oppression’s!”:
Key Details:
- The Damage: While firefighters prevented the blaze from consuming the main building, the loss of the facility’s entire fleet has caused major operational shutdowns and potential layoffs.
- History of Activism: This site has been a target before; in 2018, nearly 70 activists were forcibly removed by police after chaining themselves to machinery.
- Current Status: French farming organizations have condemned the act as a blow to a fragile industry. Police are investigating the incident as criminal arson, though no arrests have been made.
