For the next 28 years, Jason Brown, a Reno Nevada man will spend his life in prison paying for his despicable actions. The seven counts of animal torture he has been charged with will be making sure of that.
Brown was guided into the courtroom wearing a bulletproof vest and handcuffed for his own safety far more than anyone else’s considering the emotionally charged nature of this case. The people of Reno and everywhere else are outraged, and rightfully so.
Elliot Sattler the judge overseeing this horrendous case said that in all the years he’s sat on the bench he has never seen a case anywhere close to this.
He made strong comparisons to illicit child images and videos where a helpless and innocent victim has acts of cruelty brutally and sadistically committed on them. He was referencing the videotapes Jason Brown had made while committing these evil acts.
Chris Hicks the Washoe County District Attorney reflected Judge Sattler’s statements saying:
“When you get to the level of those videos that he made, he made to reveal himself,” Hicks said. “It takes it to a whole other level. And, so, you hate to think that there are these kinds of people in the world, but there are.”
On Thursday Brown took the stand in defense of himself offering an apology for his actions in the hope he would get leniency but Judge Sattler wisely said leniency had no place in this case.
While the judge did acknowledge that Brown had a serious drug addiction he also made sure to note that Brown’s family had spent around $100,000 dollars on his treatment programs accomplishing no sobriety.
Brown did plead no contest to the seven charges against him but nobody was going to believe his innocence once they saw the sadistic videos.
He received a 48-month sentence on each of the seven counts that he pled no contest on and he will be serving them consecutively (back to back).
Washoe District Judge Elliott Sattler said that he will be eligible for parole after serving a minimum of 11 years. Let’s hope he serves the full 28 years but it is unlikely as long as he stays on his best behavior in prison.
Back in July of 2014, Jason Brown was arrested when an employee at the Super 8 Motel in south Reno opened a small refrigerator to reveal dog heads stacked inside. The rest of the room he was renting was covered in dog limbs and bloodstains throughout.
When Brown pled no contest he and his lawyer insisted he couldn’t remember anything in the two to three week time period in which the dogs were tortured on video.
On Thursday the sentencing focused on multiple witnesses taking the stand to testify about their own experiences interacting with brown and what they had seen.
A witness that reportedly knew Jason Brown in High School said that Brown made contact with him on Facebook sending “disturbing” messages. The witness reported the messages directly to law enforcement.
Another witness who had reportedly sold Brown a puppy through a Craigslist ad for $40 said Brown was looking for a hunting dog for waterfowl like ducks. He chillingly told the witness that he would be back for more if it worked out.
Every day 6,000 “livestock” animals per second are being brutally murdered after lives much like the hell Jason Brown created for these poor unfortunate dogs. If you’re not vegan or plant-based already please consider the victims your choices have and change.
