The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards is the latest award show to have an all vegan plant-based menu. This decision comes after the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards both had plant-based vegan menus in an attempt to help the environment in the face of catastrophes like the Australian bushfires.

The plant-based vegan menu will feature a Paella Rice Salad with squash, a Tomato Bean Salad, and other items that will be available as you can see on the menu below.

The 2020 SAG Awards plant-based vegan menu.

“As part of the show’s long-standing commitment to sustainable practices, the 26th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will feature a plant-based menu at its ceremony on Sunday, January 19,” the organization said in an official statement.

“The SAG Awards has been the recipient of the Environmental Media Association (EMA) Green Seal for 11 years running in addition to having been awarded the EMA Gold Seal and the Green Production honor.

“The SAG Awards has also partnered for multiple years with non-profit environmental organizations such as American Forests. For the 25th Anniversary of the SAG Awards, American Forests planted 25,000 trees across the U.S. in a collaborative effort to improve the quality of air, water, and wildlife habitat.”

Joaquin Phoenix has been credited with getting the Hollywood Foreign Press Association or the HFPA, to serve the plant-based vegan fare at the Golden Globes this year. He is likely responsible for starting this trend amongst awards shows as well.

An undisclosed source told Variety magazine that “Phoenix suggested the idea to the Globes, and played a key role in persuading them to make the switch”.

Phoenix who won a Golden Globe and gave an incredible speech all about the climate crisis is also nominated for a SAG gong as well. In his Golden Globe speech he praised the HFPA by saying:

“First I would like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for recognizing and acknowledging the link between animal agriculture and climate change, it’s a very bold move, making tonight plant-based.”

With his film “Joker” up for 11 Oscar nominations including one for Joaquin himself for best leading performance let’s hope his speech at the Oscars will be centered around animal rights and climate change too.

The SAG Awards will be held on January 19th and can be watched on TNT or TBS at 8 pm Eastern Standard Time.

The Oscars are on February 9th at 8 pm Eastern Standard Time on ABC.
